Official Hatemail Page
I just got my first piece of hatemail! Took long enough... this one wasn't a comment, it was an actual email that somebody sent to my pottersues hotmail account! It's a fairly typical Disgruntled Author Complaint, but still... yay, hatemail!
This entry is going to be where I archive all my hatemail for the amusement of readers. Enjoy.
How can you make a website like that. I think you are
jelous of your poor abilty to write and create with
your mind. You have no write to say what you do! Those
characters are based on peoples views and ways of
life. By judging the characters you are judging them.
From what I know of you so far from reading what YOU
write I know you are a selfish stuck up pig that has
nothing! See what is like to be judged. And you
certainly desrve no more than nothing for insulting
people you know NOTHING about! Maybe you should think
of how much of a biast pig you are. I hope that you
eventually stop wallowing in your own self pity, and
try to realize that just because you can't create
something inspiring and beautiful that you have no
right to insult others for doing just that!
Dear Disgruntled Mary-Sue Author: I would strongly recommend learning how to spell before you go sending anybody any more hatemail. It makes you look like a much more worthy opponent when you can spell words such as 'jealous', 'right', and 'biased' properly.
February 7, 2007
Yesterday I received my first piece of hatemail at the gmail account! It started a couple of days ago with this comment:
okay if you didn't like the story you could have just wrote to me any how...why would you call them ass-babies that is so mean.
I let it go. It wasn't a troll, just a disgruntled author. Last night I received the following email in my inbox:
well i think that you should stop doing that cause who gives you the write to put things up like you so on live journal?? I bet you haven't even told the author that you did this. i even saw one author just comment on what you said about her story. I'll tell you something, 1. IF YOU DON'T LIKE READING THOSE STORIES THEN JUST DON'T READ THEM and 2. I bet you couldn't write a good story for your life and whats wrong with that Better Days story not every one thinks like you and you completely ruind that story by putting your trash on there,
piss off
Dear Disgruntled Fan of Mary-Sue Author:
Many of your questions and comments can be answered in the FAQ. The answer to your question, "whats wrong with that Better Days story", can be found here. Furthermore, I did not "ruin" a story if it is still posted, and complete. You make the choice if you want to listen to my opinion or not.
After the above was posted, I received another piece of hatemail from the same person, but with a different e-mail address:
i dare you to actually grow some balls and write a story then the authors you have slandered would read it and then we will make up this huge site about how terrible it is.
you are truly the lowest of the low.
wait you probably just some little kid who thinks that they are better then everyone. I would love to see you attacked verbly just the way you have done to authors.
Just by looking at the *Preview* or whatever you call it is really stupid cause its not even about the story you just made up random shit and think you can get away with it.
see you you low down peice of gutter trash
and yes that is what you are so grow a spine and leave the fanfiction authors alone
Dip shit
Dear Mary-Sue Author aka Mandy aka unjustbecky aka biachintraining,
Clearly, you did not read the FAQ. If you had you would have read that I do write Harry Potter fanfiction. I did not slander you. Slander is to defame or spread rumors about someone. I do not critique the Suethors in my summaries. The objects of ridicule are only the Mary Sues in the stories. Furthermore, I am not a child, but a Honours-degree-holding 20-something, and
After the email above was received, another two comments arrived from
people hate you and that's so funny that they have to send hate mail to
some as low down as you its hilarious...grow balls and grow up and stop
writing this nonsenes
The second was a reply to
do you really like the story or are you just agreeing with the others
I guess Suethors really do look for positive reviews everywhere.
On February 7, 2007, I received another piece of hatemail from another disgruntled Suethor. She didn't like my summary of her story.
If you don't like the fan fiction I write, that's just your problem!
I mean, I can write whatever I fell like and if you don't like it, don't
read it! It’s FANFIC for something: it means fans can imagine whatever they
want! And if I want to imagine Lily being like that, that's not really your
business.
Just don't read it! No one forces you to it!
What’s your problem? Aren’t you able to dream?
Respect other people, will you?
Dear Upset Mary-Sue Author:
I am able to dream, and have many dreams. One day I want to go to Versailles. I want to see a giraffe and a hippo. It just so happens that none of my dreams involve Harry Potter fanfiction with Lily Evans acting like a Queen Bee.
On May 25th I received a hatemail from Ashleigh F. She wrote:
dont fuckin publish my stuff without asking you fuckin dumbass. Im sorry that i cant write good enough for you but a lot of other people likeed it si dont fuckin screw with me. Also, dont go around assuming things about my characters because your not the fuckin author.
LOL hope life treats ya good
On May 26th, I wrote the following,
Dear Ashleigh,
I'm sorry you were offended at my review of your story. However, before you shoot your mouth off at me regarding asking permission, please keep in mind that you are writing fan fiction, and I am 100% sure you didn't ask JK Rowling for permission to use her characters. I gave full credit for your story, providing links to the story and your userinfo.
Not everyone has to like your story, everyone is allowed their opinion. If other people liked your story, and your writing abilities then sit back and enjoy it.
On June 20, I received a reply,
that dosent change the fact that you didnt ask to post my stuff. Im not upset anymore but please if you would, ask before you do that. Otherwise, im sorry for exploding like i did and i accept your aopologie.
In one ear...
On February 11, I recieved a piece of hatemail from a Veronica. Additionally, it was the same day my journal was trolled by
First of all, I doubt you'll respond to this. Since my spelling and grammar are impeccible, you have nothing to mock me for, and I've noticed a distinct tendency on your part to mock your enemies' spelling errors rather than responding to the actual content of their response. Also, I'm not going to use CAPSLOCK, because while it is tempting---you are truly a loathsome human being---I realize that it does make you look kind of silly. Plus, any use of caps would be something else you could use against a person unfairly.
Unlike many people who come against you, I'm in college and of a very rational mind. So I think you will find me much harder to argue with than the average 13-year-old that you usually end up treating like crap.
Look, I get the idea that bad stories are funny, but... I really think what you're doing is fucked up. If it was a matter of bad stories being funny, you'd just make a locked community or giggle with friends about it via instant messenger or something. The fact that you post it so publicly, and the fact that you allow people to be so mean to the obviously hurt people who come to your community upon discovering their stories have been posted, makes you a douchebag, in my humble opinion. (I realize a lot of people who come to your community aren't always at their best behavior---but come the fuck on! They're hurt and, likely, quite young. How are they supposed to be 100% polite in that situation? You tell me, because I have noooo fucking idea.)
I get that some people really do overreact to kind constructive criticism, I get that sometimes the people you feature aren't that young and should know better. But a lot of them ARE young. And if a person's first exposure to you is brutal mockery of their story, that they worked hard on, can you honestly expect them to take your "constructive criticism" seriously? I mean really?
By the way, I have never had a story featured on your journal, although I know someone who has (a while ago. She was very hurt at the time but no longer cares.) I just think what you're doing is fucked up, that's all. Nowadays I don't think I'd give two shits if a story of mine was featured on pottersues, but back when I was 13, it would have hurt me deeply. And don't say grow thicker skin---having thin skin is what 13-year-olds DO!
The following is the actual response I sent:
Dear Veronica,
I find it interesting that the opening paragraph of your little note of hate is a list of reasons why I should not be able to mock you. It clearly shows both your insecurity as well as inattention to the journal you are trolling. My "distinct tendency [...] to mock [my] enemies' spelling errors rather than responding to the actual content of their response" in an inaccurate claim. The only piece of hatemail where improper spelling was discussed is the first one, which leads me to assume you just read that bit and then decided to fly off the handle at me. Furthermore, spelling and grammar is rarely dissected by myself in the journal's posts. The focus is always the poor characterizations and plot.
I also have a hard time believing that someone who bothers sending hatemail, as well as devote the time to create a troll journal, youresick, and using personal attacks against myself and the commenters of my journal certainly does not show that you are in any way rational or harder to argue with than any other detractor that I have.
While I understand that you do not like the premise of this journal, have you extended your hatred to the other "sporking" communities out there, or have just made pottersues your particular target for whatever personal reason? Have you approached the professional flamers on fanfiction.net who flame authors and tell them that they should give up writing and die? This journal does not support any sort of personal attack against an author, which is clear in my FAQ and which I strictly enforce in the journal's comments.
This journal was created almost six years ago, and features over 2100 features, I think you are a bit late in the game to tell me that I should have made it private. Plus, you have missed the point about why I do this, probably because you have not read the FAQ or this link, located in the FAQ, which explains why I do this.
Not all authors I feature here react in the same way. While a few become outraged, there have been plenty of people who have discovered their stories on here, and have reacted in a positive and good natured manner.
As the stories I feature are hosted on a public domain, I am allowed to read it and think whatever I'd want about it. I feature stories that contain Mary-Sues or Gary-Stus and rated them on a scale from "good" to "toxic". There are stories rated "good" and "okay", and you can find them in my archives. Furthermore, just because an author is young does not mean that they get a free pass on having their story critiqued. There are plenty of young authors that are amazing writers and take the time to plan and edit their story. There is no excuse to write whatever you feel like and then be exempt from any negativity. The authors that are offended need to realize that because they posted their story on the internet for everyone to read means that not everyone has to like their story and that everyone is allowed to express their opinion. If they can not handle criticism, then putting their story online is not a good option.
If you have any questions, please reply or refer to the FAQ.
Regards,
Pottersues
